Do You Still Use A Rotary Phone?

There are children today who have no idea what a rotary phone looks like.  Remember dialing your friends who had nines and zeros in there phone number...it took for ever to call them. (Or so it seemed).

We've advanced well beyond Alexander Graham Bell's innovation with today's cell phones and technology.  Maybe it is time to innovate how we manage our careers?!

It will always be about relationships

Though the method we are using to communicate with friends and family, coworkers, colleagues, etc. has changed, the purpose is still the same.  Maintaining relationships is at the core.  We are just finding new ways to do this. 

Those who are resilient and seem to land on their feet more quickly are usually the ones who have continued to maintain contact with their network.

Innovative Thinking

It is going to take more than just doing your job well to succeed.  It is going to take more than just producing cheaper products for our country to succeed as well.  This requires innovative thinking.  How can you take what you've learned into new industries that need that help?  How can you expand on what you've learned to take it to the next level?  Seth Godin and others write about our workforce needing to be more than cogs.  They need to be empowered to be innovators. 

Look for quality not quantity

Many people focus their sights on the "stability" of large organizations.  Bigger isn't always better.  Many of today's employers are operating lean and mean.  They want to grow, but with the right people.  These can be quality employers, if you can find them!

As you look for your next job, internally or externally, consider how you can nurture relationships, innovate and respect quality!
